MADISON — The Greater Williamson Area Business Association (GWABA) is announcing that Central Park Sessions will be concluding this Thursday, August 14th. The new park has caught everyone's fancy and has proven to be a comfortable place to see music and spend an evening among friends. The first two Sessions were incredibly well-attended and successful in every way. The concert series should return next year if sponsors continue to embrace this concept. Hopefully this will be the case
Session number three, The "Don't Mess With Texas" Session, will benefit Centro Hispano and the Literacy Network. The evening's musical offerings will be an eclectic mix that will feature Grammy Award winners (in the Urban Latin CD category) Grupo Fantasma from Austin. They are a sensational big band that has toured and backed Prince and they will fit perfectly on our roomy stage. Jon Dee Graham is no stranger to Madison and he will even have a Wisconsin Brewing Company beer on tap that is named after his song "Big Sweet Life". Jon Dee has been named Performer of the Year three times in the talent- laden Austin and that's no small feat. The popular and multi-talented Cris Plata (San Antonio by birth) and his band Extra Hot will set the proper mood at 5 pm and prepare us all for a wonderful evening.
There is an ongoing Central Park Sessions raffle that will benefit all the partnering non-profits. The drawing for the 10 prizes valued at $5,000 will be during this last session before the last band at 8:15.The non-profits that are benefiting from the raffle and the Sessions are The Urban League of Greater Madison; Centro Hispano; WORT; Project 1808; The Literacy Network and The Tenant Resource Center. There will be of course a superb selection of food and drink for sale on this evening and chairs and tables will be set out on the Great Lawn of the new park between Williamson Street and East Washington with the stage placed on the barricaded S. Ingersoll St.
