Catholic Multicultural Center to celebrate planting of new community rain garden

May 7, 2014

By Kristin Van Spankeren

MADISON — The Catholic Multicultural Center (CMC) is pleased to announce the unveiling of its new community rain garden on May 17 with a celebration from 1-2:30 p.m.
In partnership with UW-Arboretum Earth Partnership with support from Friends of Lake Wingra and Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, the CMC seeks to empower community members to improve their neighborhoods through environmental stewardship. The rain garden was planned for and designed in collaboration with community participants. CMC staff and volunteers will join participants in planting the rain garden 10 a.m.-noon on the 17th.
The community aspect of the CMC rain garden is vital to the project, as the CMC hopes to inspire participants to plant their own rain gardens in their own communities. The CMC looks forward to organizing workdays, lending tools, and helping participants learn how to obtain their own plants for their gardens.

All are welcome to participate in the CMC community rain garden celebration. The celebration on May 17 will include planting of seedlings in the rain garden, music and dance performances, refreshments, and resources from local environmental groups.
Support for the project also provided by Ryan Signs, Joe Daniels Construction, and Ian’s Pizza.
