MADISON BLACK WOMEN ROCK! to host 3rd Annual Celebration of Sisters Who are Getting it Done!

October 14, 2014

MADISON — Keetra Burnette, senior director of community impact for the United Way of Dane County, her daughter Kiana Burnette, and six enlisted friends will co-host the 3rd Annual Madison Black Women Rock Awards Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the newly constructed Gateway Entrance of the Madison College Truax Campus.
Hosted in tandem with Black Entertainment Television’s nationally televised installment of the BLACK GIRLS ROCK™ concert and awards show, MADISON BLACK WOMEN ROCK! aims to inspire Black women and girls in Madison to pursue their passions while recognizing and supporting one another’s achievements. Under the theme Madison Black Women Rock – A Celebration of Sisters Who Are Getting It Done!' the event will empower local black women and girls by showcasing and celebrating their many positive contributions to family, community, and business, as well as their own creative endeavors.”
Awards will be given in seven categories to black women and girls nominated by their peers for leadership and a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others; working to address and solve pressing community concerns; balancing motherhood, work, and volunteerism; and making exceptional strides in advancing themselves and others in meaningful ways.
“Black women and girls are often overlooked for the many roles we play and the countless achievements and contributions we make daily in our community and families. We wanted to find an inspiring, fun, and memorable way to fill this void and to bring women together in celebration of one another. The Madison Black Girls Rock event is our answer to this challenge,” says Burnette.
Madison Black Women Rock is proud to partner this year with the South Side Raiders organization.  Proceeds from this year’s event will directly benefit the South Side Raiders Cheerleading team, a program designed to instill a sense of excellence, pride, leadership and self-esteem in elementary school aged.

The 3rd Annual Madison Black Women Rock Awards Celebration will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 7-9 p.m. Admission is $35.
