The Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison seeks a Director of Education to oversee a dynamic team delivering programs to more than 50,000 students, museum visitors, and lifelong learners throughout the state each year. The Director supervises three professional staff who create K-12 curriculum materials, lead workshops for middle- and high school teachers, run the National History Day program, manage a speakers bureau, design traveling exhibits, write Web content, and invent new services that connect Wisconsin residents with their heritage. Specific duties include developing policies and procedures, supervising daily operations of the education staff, representing the Society to key stakeholders, and leading strategic planning and implementation teams. A top priority of the position is to expand historical programming to African-American, Latino, and other communities of color around the state. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in education, in-depth knowledge of curriculum development and standards, experience supervising professional educators, broad knowledge of history and social studies, experience in strategic planning and program administration, and a deep commitment to public service, especially in communities of color. Experience in a museum or other cultural organization and fluency in Spanish, Hmong, or another language in addition to English are also desirable.
