Expanded BadgerCare Plus coverage sign-up begins

February 4, 2014

By Dane County Human Services

MADISON — The State of Wisconsin will expand its BadgerCare Plus healthcare program to cover about 80,000 more adults without dependent children and with incomes below 100% of the Federal poverty level as a result of the Affordable Care Act. This change will make it possible for more adults who have not been eligible in the past to get needed healthcare coverage beginning April 1.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has been updating their online application website to accept applications from these newly eligible adults as of Monday, February 3, 2014.
Applicants need to go to www.access.wi.gov to apply soon so their coverage can begin on April 1.
Dane County Human Services can begin processing these new online applications and those already submitted through the Federal Marketplace beginning next week. Anyone who has already submitted a BadgerCare Plus application, does not need to reapply.
If an applicant is not eligible for BadgerCare Plus coverage under the new rules, he/she can apply and enroll in a local healthcare plan through the Federal Marketplace at www.healthcare.gov.
Dane County residents with incomes between 100% and 133% of the federal poverty level may be able to get help paying their silver level health plan premiums through the HealthConnect program, thanks to a donation from UW Health.
