Former Madison Police Chief committed to building on success
MADISON — The Urban League of Greater Madison (ULGM) announced in a press conference March 14 that former Madison Police Chief Noble Wray will be taking over interim leadership at the ULGM. The announcement comes after Kaleem Caire announced two weeks ago that he would be stepping down from his role as president and CEO of the League.
"We are so honored to have Noble join our team and help us continue our important work in the community," said Wade Harrison, ULGM chairman of the board. "Noble has a tremendous wealth of experience and understanding of Madison as a life-long resident and former police chief."
Wray will assume his duties on March 19. He will take over the day-to-day oversight of operations, engage in fund-raising activities, and assist in the search for a permanent leader of the League.
"This is an exciting day for me," said Wray. "I love this community, I understand its challenges, and am committed to doing anything I can to improve the quality of life for those who have the dream of success and happiness. So many important accomplishments have been achieved under Kaleem's leadership, it will be difficult to fill his shoes."
Wray was named Madison police chief in 2004 and had been with the department for 30 years before retiring earlier this year. Wray advanced a community policing philosophy that he called "trust-based policing" focusing on building relationships between officers and community members.
The League has formed a special search committee of ULGM board members and other key members of the community that will mount a national search for a permanent president and CEO.
