MADISON —The Office of Diversity & Inclusion and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion at Edgewood College is pleased to announce Edgewood’s inaugural DREAM Week — a week-long celebration of the life, legacy and achievements of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Edgewood College is excited to announce the following events occurring on campus next week:
1. DREAM Week kicks off on Monday, January 20th, with the Community Scholars Program out in the Madison community, partnering with different organizations in Dane County to provide direct community service.
2. The afternoon of Monday, 1/20, the Edgewood Eagle basketball team will be taking on Wisconsin Lutheran in honor of Martin Luther King for the MLK basketball game. Please join us for tip-off at 2pm, in the Todd Wehr EdgeDome.
3. On Tuesday evening, the Center for Diversity & Inclusion will host Unity Night. This night is a celebration of coming together as a community, and showing our commitment to promoting an inclusive campus. Games, open-mic and music will be part of this celebration.
4. On Wednesday, 1/22, Mixed Blood Theatre will be on campus to perform Dr. King’s Dream. This performance is drawn from Dr. King’s letters, sermons, books, and speeches. Join us Wednesday evening, from 7-8pm, in the Anderson Auditorium. Prior to the performance of Dr. King’s Dream, the Admissions Office will be hosting its annual Multicultural Open House. Admitted underrepresented and first-generation students will be invited to campus to explore student life, financial aid, and receive assistance with the completion of their scholarship application.
5. On Thursday, 1/23, Edgewood’s Black Student Union (BSU) is partnering with the President of Edgewood College, Dr. Daniel Carey, and will be holding a Black History Read-In, in the President’s Office. Textbooks and works authored by African American writers will be available for community members to read and reflect upon throughout the day. Over the lunch hour, the BSU will conduct a sit-in, to remember the Civil Rights Movement.
6. Lastly, on the evening of Friday, 1/24, the Center for Diversity & Inclusion will host the MLK Student Award Banquet. This leadership banquet honors the works of Martin Luther King Jr. and recognizes the great achievements of Edgewood’s students, faculty and staff that are committed to building a just and compassionate world. Student scholarships and accolades, along with two distinguished awards to faculty and staff, will also be presented at the banquet. Professor Vincent Kavoloski will be providing a keynote discussion of, “MLK’s Vision of Peace Today: The World House.” Immediately following the banquet, Edgewood’s Multicultural Advisory Council will host the MLK Celebration for Edgewood students.
