MADISON — Madison District 8 Alder Scott Resnick announced today that he will be running as a candidate for Madison Mayor in the upcoming 2015 Spring Election. Joined by friends and supporters and introduced by Madison Alder Larry Palm and Dane County Supervisor Mary Kolar, he made his announcement on the steps of the Madison Municipal Building.
“I want to help create a safe, inclusive community that promotes a strong quality of life for everyone,” said Resnick. “I want to empower our residents to improve the community and I will work to ensure that our city government is the most open, transparent municipal government in the United States. Madison deserves a progressive transportation and environmental agenda, one that proactively responds to our changing climate. I also want Madison to be a hub of creativity and innovative ideas. Not just for economic development, but in the arts, how the city provides basic services, and rethinking the way municipal government interacts with its citizens.”
Throughout the campaign, Resnick will be meeting with community leaders and Madison residents in their neighborhoods to discuss his vision for a 21stcentury Madison.
“Over the coming months, we will outline bold objectives and specific goals to improve the quality of life for everyone in Madison,” Resnick said. “In this campaign, we will bring new ideas to the city; some that have been successfully implemented in cities around the country, others that should be tried here first. By working together — government, for-profits, and nonprofits — we will grow a 21st-century city that makes everyone proud to call Madison home.”
A University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate with a degree in political science and legal studies, Resnick, 27, is a two-term City of Madison alder and recently completed a term as Common Council President Pro Tempore. Resnick helped found and serves as vicepresident of Hardin Design and Development, a successful mobile application and software development company which recently was named one of Madison Magazine’s “2014 Best Places to Work.” Resnick has previously served as president of the State/Langdon Neighborhood Association and lives in downtown Madison with his wife, Kelly.
