Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is pleased to recognize Big Brother Jose Alvarado as our Big of the month. Jose has been matched with his Little Brother David since May 2015. As well as being a Big Brother, Jose is a Community Corrections Agent for the WI Dept of Corrections. Jose said he originally wanted to become a Big Brother because it is “a very positive use of my time. Madison has been my home for the last 5 years and I have gotten a lot from the city. I felt I needed to give back to the community.”
Jose and David enjoy doing a variety of activities together that include playing basketball, riding bikes, going to UW games, going to the library, and eating meals together. Jose says his favorite outing they ever had was “When we went up to the Dells. We had a free voucher to go to an indoor amusement park and the first thing we did was go-carts. We were neck and neck the whole race, but David edged me out in the end to win. David was so happy and excited, but instead of rubbing it in my face, David was very nice about it and complimented me on coming in second and said that I will probably beat him next time. He was very gracious in victory and it was really neat to see.”
Jose is very supportive of his Little Brother David in many areas of his life by encouraging him to try new things. Even though Jose and David have been matched under a year, their relationship has grown quickly and it looks like they will continue to grow even closer.
