MADISON — Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne (D-Madison) announced he will run for Attorney General of Wisconsin on the Democrat ticket.
Ozanne becomes the second Democrat to announce his intentions to become the state’s top law enforcement official. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Ozanne said: “As a prosecutor for 13 years, as the District Attorney in the State’s second largest county and during my tenure helping lead Wisconsin’s prison system, I’ve spent my career fighting to keep families and communities safe. And I’ll do the same as Wisconsin’s Attorney General.”
The Dane County District Attorney also said: “Wisconsin residents want an Attorney General who does the job without fear or favor. Wisconsin residents deserve an Attorney General who works for them…not for partisan political interests and not for the special interests.”
Ozanne graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with his Bachelor’s degree in 1994 and his law degree in 1998. Also, he played soccer for the Wisconsin Badgers. Before becoming Dane County District Attorney, Ozanne was an Assistant District Attorney for Dane County from 1998 to 2008, and was appointed by Governor Jim Doyle as Executive Assistant for the Department Corrections in 2008. In 2010, Ozanne was appointed by Governor Doyle to be Dane County District Attorney replacing Brian Blanchard.
So far, Democrat State Representative Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee) and Republican Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel (R-Waukesha) announced their intentions to run for Attorney General.
