For 23 years, The Madison Times has been the only weekly news publication covering the positive news, people, and events that affect Madison’s communities of color, with our primary focus on the African American population.
The first issue of The Madison Times Weekly Newspaper was published April 24, 1991.
Described as "Madison's only 'blue chip' community paper,” the initial issue tackled important topics close to Betty Franklin-Hammonds' heart.
Since then, there has been 1,264 Madison Times editions printed at Capital Newspapers. Twenty-three years later, The Madison Times is still Madison's only weekly newspaper dedicated to the positive happenings of Madison's ever-growing minority community.
In those 23 years, we have seen the Madison community become more and more diverse which has made The Madison Times an even more essential publication.
We try to bring our readers interesting stories and profiles on people who are not normally featured in the major newspapers or on the local television news stations. Understanding people and cultures and issues that are different than your own helps us to build relationships and makes our community strong.
We at The Madison Times are grateful for the community’s support over these 23 years and we look forward to your continued support in the future.
