MADISON —The Madison Metropolitan School District released its first annual report at Sennett Middle School on Monday, detailing progress on the district’s strategy to raise achievement for all students and close opportunity gaps.
“Not only have we built a strong foundation for our future success, but we are starting to see promising results already,” Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham said. “We want to publicly thank all of our staff for their hard work this past year, especially those who serve our students directly in the classroom. Our progress this year serves as evidence that we have the will and the skill to make our vision a reality.
The annual report details the district’s progress over the last year in each part of the strategic framework and measures student achievement outcomes this school year. At the elementary level, the district saw consistent improvement in student achievement measures across student groups. At middle and high school, we also see improvement in many measures as well as leading indicators of future success.
“The fact that we are seeing promising results in our first year is a powerful sign that we are on the right track,” Cheatham said.
The report also details progress in the three main parts of the district’s strategic framework:
• School Improvement Plans: Disciplined way of working focused on targeting strategies to improve achievement for all and close gaps
• Common Learning: Building capacity to teach all students well
• Five Priority Areas: Removing institutional barriers to student success
“Our framework is anchored to a simple but bold vision – that every school will be a thriving school that prepares every student to graduate from high school ready for college, career and community,” Cheatham said. “Together, we have set out to close the gaps in opportunity that lead to gaps in student achievement, and to be the model of what a strong, successful public school district looks like. With urgency, determination and tenacity – and the strong foundation that we’ve built together – we know we will make our vision a reality.”
