Joan Armatrading to Perform Solo October 6 at Wisconsin Union Theater

September 5, 2015

Joan-ArmatradingNo matter how long an artist performs, they never truly stop; it is part of who they are. This could not be truer for Joan Armatrading, who is performing in her last major tour.

Self-taught singer, guitarist and pianist Armatrading began writing and playing music at age 14. Her incredible career made her a woman of many firsts. She was the first female artist from the United Kingdom to debut on the Billboard Blues chart at number one and the first female UK artist to be nominated for a Grammy in blues. Armatrading has been nominated for three Grammy awards and is an Ivor Novello Award recipient. She has toured for over 42 years and released 18 studio albums.

In her last major tour, Armatrading is performing solo, creating an intimate setting for both her and the audience.

Says Armatrading about her current tour, “I will never retire but this will be the last major tour that I will undertake. For the first time these concerts will be me solo on stage playing the guitar and piano and singing. I want these concerts to be a special lively interactive one-to-one experience. I have absolutely enjoyed the last 42 years of performances but now, with my final major tour, I want to capture a unique memory for both myself and the audience.

Opening for Armatrading is Georgia native Kristina Train, who performed with Herbie Hancock and his band as lead singer and violinist. Train blends country, soul, blues and folk in her music, creating strong, emotional performances.

The Wisconsin Union Theater, in partnership with T-Presents, is proud to welcome Joan Armatrading to Shannon Hall in a special solo evening performance Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office in the Wisconsin Union Theater, by calling 608- 265-ARTS and on our website. Tickets are $100, $55, $45 and $35 for the general public. There are a limited number of tickets for University of Wisconsin-Madison students (with valid ID) at $25.

This performance is presented by the Wisconsin Union Theater’s Performing Arts Committee in partnership with T-Presents. WORT, 89.9 FM, Capitol City Hues and Wisconsin Public Radio are media sponsors.
