MADISON — In their final Strollin’ “jazz crawl” of the season, the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium “Strollin’ First Settlement” will once again offer up a wide array of jazz styles, from big band to western swing, from classic organ trio to vocals from the Great American Songbook, and more.
The Greater Madison Jazz Consortium is a coalition of the nonprofit presenting organizations Madison Music Collective, Madison Jazz Society, Wisconsin Union Theater and Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest, plus educators from the UW School of Music and the Madison School District Fine Arts Division.
Strollin’ First Settlement is made possible by a generous grant from the John and Carolyn Peterson Charitable Foundation, with additional support from each of the participating venues and host community sponsors — the First Settlement Neighborhood Association, Summit Credit Union, and Colectivo — and our media partners Isthmus, WORT-FM, the Capital City Hues, and The Madison Times.
Their first two jazz crawls this summer — one on Atwood/Schenk’s Corners and one on Monroe Street — were big successes.
The goal of the jazz crawl is to expand and diversify the local jazz fan base, bringing high-profile artists to town, getting more work opportunities and better pay for local performers, and cultivating the next generation of jazz musicians and listeners.
It’s eight hours of non-stop jazz, from 4:30 p.m. to past midnight, at four venues in the King-East Wilson Street area just east of Madison’s Capitol Square. And, as always, with our Strollin' series, no cover charge.
