Service agencies join together to match employers looking to diversify their workforce and job seekers in a festive, fun environment
MADISON — On Saturday, July 19, Centro Hispano is bringing together employers and service agencies to co-sponsor a first of its kind Job/Career Fair focusing on employment and career opportunities for the emerging Latino population in Dane County. The fair will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Centro Hispano, 810 W Badger Road with a kick off at 10 a.m. with Centro Hispano director Karen Menendez Coller and Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.
Employers looking to diversity their workforce and individuals looking for the right job fit or ready to launch a new career will benefit by attending the event. Already committed are fifty area employers and educational providers including UW Hospitals, Epic and Madison College. The festive event will also celebrate thriving families, and will include music, food vendors and activities for children.
“Good jobs and career pathways are important to our community, and this effort is in keeping with Centro Hispano’s mission to foster a ‘hub’ for the Latino community,” says Karen Menendez Coller, Centro Hispano’s director. “We are offering families immediate opportunities to meet their needs, as well as hope for what the future holds. It is vital that we build partnerships between community organizations, participants, educational providers and employers to have a sustainable impact.”
As the national economy, and Dane County in particular, have rebounded from the recession, some may still feel left behind economically. While the Job/Career Fair will certainly have a Latino “flavor,” all are welcome and encouraged to participate.
“These are the kinds of positive actions we need to build a Dane County community that is moving forward together,” says Dane County Executive Joe Parisi. “I applaud the partnership that brought these organizations together to serve Dane County residents and support their efforts to improve employment opportunities and pathways for all, including Dane County’s Latino residents.”
