For many, the idea of working out is uncomfortable. Everything from scheduling time to figuring out what to wear becomes a task. Then there’s the stress of finding a gym where one can feel comfortable among all of the treadmill runners and weight lifters. The whole situation can be overwhelming. Add the loud techno music that blasts out over speakers and one could understand why some choose to be a couch potato.
That is until now.
5 Star Fitness, started by physical trainer and Madison native Walt Orr, has started a new urban workout class called The Hip Hop Hustle. The classes are held at The Fred Astaire Dance Studio, 1714 Eagan Road.
“I started the class because I would always hear people talking about how there aren’t any classes like it,” says Orr. “It’s a high energy aerobics class set to hip hop. People tend to respond more to music that they enjoy.”
Orr has been an ACE certified trainer for three years. A LaFollette graduate, he has worked at Planet Fitness as well as with a wide range of private clients from new mothers to athletes. He says that those experiences helped him decide to create a workout based on music that he and many of his clients grew up with but didn’t always hear in their gyms.
“That’s the beauty of being in business for myself,” says Orr. “I get the chance to create a program that not only do the people like, but I like.”
Classes are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 p.m. The hour long sessions are group workouts, which makes for an exclusive workout environment.
“It’s a great way to lose weight, tone up and look great,” says Orr.
