MADISON — Over the last 20 years, Women in Focus has awarded more than 240 scholarships to students of color — both high school seniors and continuing college students. Members have worked with great effort and enthusiasm to provide as many resources as possible for this important educational purpose.
In 2013, 12 scholarships of $2,000 each went to Dane County recipients. This year, the organization has determined that its fundraising will support 14 scholarships of $2,500. This represents a 25 percent monetary increase to each student.
A special scholarship has been added this year in the name of the late founding member Jan Studesville and her husband Al. Jan and Al were killed in a motorcycle accident in 2013.
The 2014 awards will be made at the Women in Focus Scholarship Reception in the Washburn Room (Regina Hall) of Edgewood College on Sunday, April 6, 1 p.m. Scholars, their family and friends, as well as supporters of Women in Focus will be invited.
